2014 Tartan Day

My band, Kilty by Association will be playing at Paddy's Bar and Grill in downtown Portland, Saturday, April 5th!

Here is the poster for our next gig. I simply made a few changes to last years poster. Looking forward to going back to Paddy's. They are always an excellent host.

Our St Patrick's Day gigs turned out great! At one show, we were asked to play a second set and wound up playing a 4-hour show that day! Good times were had and good drinks were consumed!

Have Horse, Will Travel | Fantasy RPG Figure Collection (part 5)

I have done these kind of posts before, but decided to give them a proper name! Behold the "Fantasy RPG Figure Collection" series!

None of these figures are painted to an exceptional level, and only a few are painted to what I would consider (now) as table top standard. I don't remember the manufacturer of each figure, but they are likely a mix of Grenadier, RAFM and Reaper.
  1. Random horse, came with rider (early 00s)
  2. My first horse figure, came with rider and standing version (early 80s)
  3. My second horse figure, came with rider (mid 80s)
  4. Random horse, came with rider (early 00s)
  5. One of a pair of "adventurer's horses", came without rider (mid 00s)
  6. PC's horse, came with rider and standing version (late 90s)
  7. One of a pair of "adventurer's horses", came without rider (mid 00s)
  8. Female PC's horse, came with rider and standing version (mid 90s)

The reason these horses do not have riders attatched is because I primarily use (and re-use) them as steeds for PCs and NPCs. I'll either place the character's mini next to the horse, or add a label with the rider's name on the saddle.

Horse number 6 was the only horse that had its rider painted.

Here are the past articles in this series:
Part 1: Wagons Ho!
Part 4: Giants Among Us

Drone Sentry Turret Team Scratch Build WIP pt 3

More progress on this project. This one is moving along nicely now.

In this picture, I just completed gluing on the googly eyes. The white tubes (barely visible) are now glued in place on the "legs".

Couldn't wait to start adding the paneling

A group shot with gun mounts and Burst Cannons attached.

Tau Hammerhead WIP

A quick in progress shot.

I told myself I wouldn't repaint any of my existing Tau in the new colors until I painted some new units. Well... since I never finished this Hammerhead, I am not counting it as a repaint! >)

So far, just base colors on about 2/3 of the models and an experiment with black-lining the grooves and corners with a Micron 01 Archival Ink pen. I am really LOVING the look!

The yellow missiles really add a pop. What hasn't really shown up in my color scheme tests and showcase pics are the lights/sensors. My "rule" is the main/primary sensor is green with any remaining sensors painted orange. All of the window/screens are blue.

At the moment, the mechanical and innards parts are black, but I am toying with adding a little splash of silver.

I have significantly reduced the steps (and coats of paint) for this color scheme. Before this model, I was painting the entire model in a custom grey (50/50 Shadow Grey/Space Wolf Grey) in 2-3 layers--Which is (was) the groove color. Then I painted all the panels in Space Wolf Grey... typically 3-4 layers to get good coverage. Lastly, I edge highlighted in white.

The steps I took here were to paint a layer of Astronomicon Grey (for opaque coverage only), then a layer of Space Wolf Grey, next add the black line, and finally edge highlight with white--That's 4 steps vs 6-8 steps!!

March Gigs

My band has a new member! Our bassist left the band a few months a go, and a long time friend of mine has joined the Cletic cause a few weeks back.

We have 3 shows in 8 days coming up in honor of St. Patrick's Day. I reconfigured last years poster, grouping all three shows together.

Hope you like it! If you want to know more about my band, you can check out our Facebook page.

Drone Sentry Turret Team Scratch Build WIP pt 2

I swear I posted this project waaay back when I started it, but I can't find it now!

Around the same time I built my Remote Sensor Tower project, I started this project. This is a quartet of Drone Sentry Turrets. I only finished one of them. The other three had most of the sub components built, but were left in dozens of pieces for the last three years.

At the time of the picture, the white tubes connecting the body and the "legs" are not glued.

I built and magnetized the remaining three weapon mounts and magnetized 8 Burst Cannons.

Next step... lots of putty!

Tau Magnatized

A short post today. It may not look like much progress, but it was actually quite tedious and time consuming.

Magnetized 16 weapons: 2 Seeker Missiles, a set of 3 weapons for a Crisis Suit Team, a Multi-Tracker and the remaining options for my Heavy Drone Team.

I figured out how to magnetize the weapon mounts for my Drone Sentry Turret Team.
