Big Red Viking

I started homebrewing beer and soda in 2010. Over a 5 year period, I had brewed over 20 batches of beer, over 5 batches of soda, and over 30 batches of "Flavored Moonshine Pie". Unfortunately, I had to stop homebrewing in 2015 due to a number of family issues. But I hope to get back to it soon.

Beer/Ale
My favorite part of homebrewing is creating unique beers. My first few attempts were clones of existing beers, but I soon flexed my creativity and started making some very unique beers. Following is a rundown of all my beer creations.

  • A Kiss of Cherry: A cherry infused Oatmeal Stout
  • Kona Storm: A Kona coffee infused Porter
  • Medieval Strong Ale: A 13th century inspired recipe for landowners
  • Medieval Ordinary Ale: The second running for 13th century servants
  • Squirrel Cheeks: A Nutbrown Ale
  • Purple Haze: A Lavender infused Hefeweizen
  • Zebra Tail: A Vanilla infused Oatmeal Stout
  • The Mocker: A Raspberry infused Red Ale
  • Witch Hazel: A Chocolate and Hazelnut Nutbrown
  • Quaker Beer: A Maple Syrup and Brown Sugar infused Oatmeal Stout.
  • KBA Ale: A Wee Heavy Scotch Ale infused with Bourbon soaked Vanilla Beans, named after my band Kilty by Association
  • Autumn's Secret: A Macadamia infused Pumpkin Ale
  • PBJ: A Peanut Butter and Blackberry Jelly infused Wheat Ale
  • Thai Tea Whitey: A Thai Tea infused Whit
  • Azteca: A Chipotle infused Porter

Even though it has been over 2 years since I have homebrewed, I continue to create names, recipes and labels. Here is a list of some of my planned future offerings.

  • Serengeti: A South African Spice infused Porter
  • Hot Blonde: A Jalapeno and Cascabel infused Blonde Ale
  • You Can't Curry Love: Curry infused Chicha de jora
  • XXX Root Beer: A Sarsaparilla, Licorice, and Ginger infused Irish Red
  • Sweet Jerk: A Roasted Anaheim Pepper and Apricot infused Irish Red
  • Kona Breeze: A Kona Coffee, Coconut, and Chocolate infused Porter

Soda
I love soda. My son loves soda. After my first few batches of beer, I started making soda too.

  • Black Mamba: A Licorice infused Root Beer
  • Mandarin Initiative: An Orange infused Ginger Ale
  • CVC: A Cherry and Vanilla infused Cola
  • Z Cola: A cinnamon infused Cola
  • Root Beer: A basic Root Beer

Moonshine Pie
Inspired by the character Mags Bennett from the TV show Justified. I created recipes for a "spiced" punch. After said mixture cools, it is mixed with Everclear at 5.5:1. One batch makes about 9 32oz Mason Jars. This has become very popular with friends, and the recipes are some of my most popular posts on this blog.

  • Apple Pie (mk 1)
  • Caramel Apple Pie
  • Cherry Pie (mk 1)
  • Apple Pie (mk 2)
  • Cranberry Pie
  • Cherry Pie (mk 2)
  • Ginger Lemongrass Pie
  • XXX Chocolate Espresso Pie
  • Blackberry Pie
  • Coffee Almond Rocca Pie
  • Cherry Pie (mk 3)
